Hadith 11371

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) discussed marriage with the daughter of Abu Jahl. When this news reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fatimah is a piece of my heart; whatever causes her pain, causes me pain as well, and whatever grieves her, grieves me too."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This daughter of Abu Jahl was a Muslim, and it was permissible for Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu to marry her. However, since Sayyidah Fatimah radi Allahu anha could have been hurt and distressed—as is common in matters between co-wives—the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam defended his daughter. Nevertheless, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not declare this marriage forbidden (haram) for Sayyiduna Ali.
