It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father was martyred on the day of Uhud. He left behind two orchards in his inheritance, and he owed a debt to a Jew in the form of dates. The Jew’s debt was even more than the yield of both orchards. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Jew: “Can you grant such a concession that you take some of the debt this year and the rest next year?” He refused. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): “When the dates ripen, inform me.” Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I informed you (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and along with him came Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). We began to harvest the fruit and the dates were weighed for the Jew beneath the date palm. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept supplicating for blessing. We paid off the entire debt to the Jew from the fruit of the smaller orchard. After that, we presented fresh dates and water to you (peace and blessings be upon him). You (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions ate the dates and drank the water. Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This too is among the blessings about which you will be questioned.”
