Abdur Rahman bin Abi Amrah Ansari narrates from his father that he was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a battle. During this time, the people faced severe hunger. The people asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for permission to slaughter some of the riding camels and said that only Allah knows if we will reach our next destination. But when Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saw that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was about to permit them to slaughter some camels, he said: O Messenger of Allah! What will become of us tomorrow if we are hungry or have to face the enemy on foot? Instead, if you deem it appropriate, ask the people to bring whatever food and drink they have left. We will gather these items in one place. You pray to Allah Almighty for blessing in them; Allah Almighty will bless us through your prayer. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked the people to bring whatever food and drink they had left. People began to bring a handful of food or a little more; the most anyone brought was a sa’ of dates. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered all these items and, standing, prayed to Allah Almighty as much as was due for His pleasure. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, called the army to bring their own vessels (bags, sacks, etc.) and fill them with food. All the vessels in the entire army were filled with food, and just as much food remained. Seeing this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, smiled with such joy that his molar teeth became visible. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I am the Messenger of Allah. Whoever meets Allah Almighty with testimony and heartfelt affirmation of these two things, the Fire will be kept away from him on the Day of Resurrection.
