It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition or a journey, and our number was a little more than two hundred and ten. During this time, the time for prayer arrived. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Does anyone have water?" (Upon hearing this) a man came running with a vessel in which there was a small amount of water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) poured that water into a bowl and performed ablution thoroughly. After that, he moved back and let the people remain there. All the people gathered near the bowl and began to touch the water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the crowd and noise of the people and said: "Be patient." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand in the water and the bowl and said: "Bismillah." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Complete your ablution." (Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, says:) By Him Who has tested me regarding my eyesight: That day I saw streams of water flowing from between the blessed fingers of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), until all the people had performed ablution.
Benefits: … From the ahadith of this chapter, it is understood that on several occasions when there was a shortage of water, Allah manifested this miracle at the hands of His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) that springs of water gushed forth from the fingers of his (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) blessed hands, and the entire army fulfilled their water needs. Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (radi Allahu anhu) became blind in the later part of his life, which is why he said in his narration: "By the One Who has tested me in the matter of eyesight!"
