It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When the mosque was made of palm trunks and branches, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray beside one of the palm trunks and would deliver the sermon standing next to it. One companion submitted: O Messenger of Allah! If you permit, we can prepare something for you upon which you can stand and deliver the Friday sermon, so that everyone can see you and you can easily make your address heard by all. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is fine. So a pulpit with three steps was made for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the pulpit was ready and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had it placed in its spot, he passed by that trunk to go to the pulpit, and the trunk began to cry profusely until it split apart. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to it, placed his blessed hand upon it until it became calm. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards the pulpit. Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray, he would pray near that trunk. When the mosque was demolished and its structure changed, that trunk was taken by Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him); it remained with him until it decayed, termites ate it, and it crumbled into pieces.
