It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ali bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I have witnessed three such things from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which neither anyone before me has seen nor will anyone after me be able to witness. Once, I was traveling with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). During the journey, he passed by a woman sitting by the roadside, who had a (small) child with her. She said: O Messenger of Allah! Jinn have afflicted this child, and because of this we are greatly troubled; he has fits several times a day. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring him to me. She lifted the child and placed him between the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the wooden saddle. The Prophet opened the child’s mouth, blew into it three times with some saliva, and recited this supplication: BISMILLAH, ANA ABDULLAH, IKHSA’ ADUWWALLAH. (In the name of Allah, I am the servant of Allah, so be disappointed, O enemy of Allah.) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed the child back to the woman and said: Meet us here on your return and tell us what happened. Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We went ahead, and when we returned, we found the woman at the same place. She had three goats with her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: How is your child? She said: By Allah, Who has sent you with the truth! Since that time, we have not noticed anything (wrong). Please accept these goats as a gift. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Dismount and take one goat, and return the rest. In another narration: She presented two rams, some cheese, and some ghee to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Keep the cheese, ghee, and one ram, and return the other ram. Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day I went out towards the wilderness (desert). When we reached an open place, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May you be blessed, look for something that can serve as a screen for me (while relieving myself). I said: I do not see anything except a tree, and I do not think it can serve as a screen for you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is near it? I said: There is another tree like it, or I said: There is another tree nearby. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Go to those trees and say: The Messenger of Allah commands you to come together by Allah’s command. Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Upon hearing this, the two trees joined together, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) relieved himself behind them and then returned and said: Go to those trees and say to them: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you both to return to your places. So they returned to their places. Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day I was sitting in the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a camel came running and placed the lower part of its neck on the ground before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and tears began to flow from its eyes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May you be blessed, find out whose camel this is; it has some matter. I went out in search of its owner; it belonged to an Ansari. I brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What complaint does your camel have? He said: What complaint does it have? I do not know what complaint it has. We have been working it and carrying water on it, but now it is unable to carry water, so yesterday we decided to slaughter it and distribute its meat. The Prophet said: Do not do so; either gift this camel to me or sell it to me. He said: O Messenger of Allah! It is yours, you may keep it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) marked it with the charity camels’ mark of the treasury and sent it there.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Although this narration is weak, these matters are established regarding the rights of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: inanimate objects, animals, plants—in short, everything possesses awareness and perception of Allah and His Messenger, as is proven by the following narration:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah radi Allahu anhu, who said: “We returned from a journey with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. When we reached a garden from among the gardens of Banu Najjar, there was a camel there that would attack anyone who entered the garden. The people mentioned this to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He came to the garden and called the camel. The camel came, placing its lip on the ground, and sat down before him. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ‘Bring me a halter.’ He put the halter on it and handed it over to its owner. Then he turned to the people and said: ‘There is nothing between the heavens and the earth except that it knows that I am the Messenger of Allah, except the rebellious among the jinn and mankind.’” …
We returned from a journey in the company of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. When we reached a garden belonging to Banu Najjar, there was a rebellious camel there; whenever anyone entered the garden, the camel would attack him. The Ansar mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He entered the garden and called the camel. The camel came and placed its lips on the ground and sat down before him. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Bring its halter.” He tied its rope and placed it on its head, then handed the camel over to its owner. Then he turned to the people and said: “Everything between the heavens and the earth knows about me that I am the Messenger of Allah, except the rebellious among the jinn and mankind.” (Musnad Ahmad: 14333, Ibn Abi Shaybah: 11/473, Darimi: 18)
