It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when (before Prophethood) the Ka'bah was being rebuilt, Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also began to carry stones. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: To protect yourself from the pain of the stones, remove your waistcloth and place it on your neck. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his suggestion, but as soon as he did so, he (peace and blessings be upon him) fell unconscious to the ground and his eyes turned towards the sky. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and said: My cloak, give me my cloak. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and tied his cloak. The words of another narration are as follows: He fell unconscious, and after that, he was never seen in a naked state.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the narrations from Tabarani and Bazzar is as follows: Sayyiduna Abbas radi Allahu anhu asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: “What has happened to you?” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stood up, took his lower garment (izar), and said: “I have been forbidden from walking naked.” Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu says: I used to conceal this statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam out of fear that people might say that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is insane, until Allah Ta’ala made his Prophethood manifest.
This narration is reported in Musnad Bazzar (1295) and in Bayhaqi’s Dala’il al-Nubuwwah (vol. 2, p. 33) from Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, from which it is understood that the one who concealed the statement “I have been forbidden from walking naked” was Abbas radi Allahu anhu, not Jabir radi Allahu anhu. Jabir was an Ansari Companion, whereas Abbas participated in the rebuilding of the Ka‘bah; Jabir did not. (Abdullah Rafiq)
