Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, I speak only the truth. Some companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, you also joke with us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I speak only the truth.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If, at times and on specific occasions, one engages in humor and jest in moderation, then there is no harm in it. However, if one is excessive in this and goes beyond the limits, then the awe and dignity of such people are lost, deadness overtakes the heart, fools become emboldened, and the result is nothing but evil. Someone has beautifully said:
"I jest where jesting is becoming for a young man, But when I find men (i.e., mature people), I am one of seriousness."
At times, from the manner of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), it is apparent that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was engaging in humor and jest, but even then, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would not step outside the bounds of truth, as will become clear from the next hadith.
