عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزَّيَادِيِّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ وَبِيَدِهِ عَصَاهُ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَا كَعْبُ إِنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ تُوُفِّيَ وَتَرَكَ مَالًا فَمَا تَرَى فِيهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ يَصِلُ فِيهِ حَقَّ اللَّهِ فَلَا بَأْسَ عَلَيْهِ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ عَصَاهُ فَضَرَبَ كَعْبًا وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”مَا أُحِبُّ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي هَذَا الْجَبَلَ ذَهَبًا أُنْفِقُهُ وَيُتَقَبَّلُ مِنِّي أَذَرُ خَلْفِي مِنْهُ سِتَّ أَوَاقٍ“ أَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ يَا عُثْمَانُ أَسَمِعْتَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ
Malik bin Abdullah Ziyadi narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to enter the house of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). He granted him permission to enter. In his hand was a staff. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Ka'b! Abdur Rahman has passed away leaving behind considerable wealth. What is your opinion regarding this? He said: If he used to fulfill Allah's rights from that wealth, then there is no harm in it. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his staff and struck Sayyiduna Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I heard that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not even like that this mountain of Uhud be of gold and I spend it in the way of Allah and my charity is accepted by Allah, and I leave for myself from it only six uqiyah of gold. O Uthman! I ask you by Allah, did you hear this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? (Sayyiduna Abu Dharr repeated this three times.) Finally, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, I also heard this hadith.
