It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) looked towards the mountain of Uhud and said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), I do not like that the mountain of Uhud be turned into gold for the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and that I keep spending it in the way of Allah, and when I die, I leave behind even two dinars, except if I leave two dinars for the repayment of a debt, that is a different matter. So, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) passed away, he did not leave behind any dinar, dirham, slave, or slave-girl, etc. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) only left behind a coat of mail, and he departed from this world while it was mortgaged with a Jew in exchange for thirty sa’ of barley. In another narration, it is mentioned that he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had acquired this for the food of his family.
