It is narrated from Abdul Majeed Aqili, who says: We set out with the intention of Hajj during the era of Yazid bin Muhallab. He told us that in the region of Al-Aaliyah there is a place called Az-Zujayj. After performing the rites of Hajj, we reached Az-Zujayj. We made our mounts sit down and walked to a well where many elders were present. They had dyed their beards and were conversing among themselves. Abdul Majeed says: We asked them if there was a person here who had the honor of the company of Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Where is his house? They told us that indeed he is a companion of the Messenger and this is his house. We went to his house, greeted him with salam, and he allowed us to enter. He was quite old and was lying down. His name was ‘Ada bin Khalid Kilabi. I asked: Are you the elder who had the honor of the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes, if it were not night now, I would have read to you the letter that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to me. He asked: Who are you people? We replied: We have come from Basra. He said: Welcome. What is Yazid bin Muhallab doing? We replied: There, he is calling towards the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: What business does he have with them? What is his connection with them? I asked: Then whom should we support, the people of Sham or Yazid? He said: If you remain neutral and sit apart, you will be successful. Abdul Majeed reported: I remember that he repeated this three times. Then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Arafah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing with his feet in the stirrups of his camel and was proclaiming in a loud voice: O people! What day is this? The companions replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What month is this? The companions replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What city is this? The companions replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is a sacred day, this is a sacred month, this is a sacred city. Beware! Indeed, your blood and your wealth are sacred to one another just as the sanctity of this day, in this city, and in this month, until the Day of Judgment. He will hold you accountable for your deeds on the Day of Judgment. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands towards the sky and said: O Allah! Bear witness over them, O Allah! Bear witness over them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this statement several times. I do not remember exactly how many times he (peace and blessings be upon him) said it.
