عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ قَالُوا لَا إِلَّا ابْنَ أُخْتٍ لَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْنُ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ أَوْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْبُرَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا وَسَلَكَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the Ansar at one place and asked: "Is there anyone among you who is not from you?" They replied: "No, except for one nephew of ours." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A nephew is considered a member of the same people." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Quraysh have only recently abandoned disbelief and have suffered the calamity of defeat. I wish to give them something to win their hearts. Are you not pleased that people return with worldly goods, while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah? If the common people walk in one valley and the Ansar walk in a mountain pass, I will prefer to walk in the pass of the Ansar."
