It is narrated from Sayyiduna Iyad bin Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon one day. In his sermon, he said: My Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, has commanded me to teach you those things from what He has informed me today, which you do not know. Allah Almighty said: Whatever wealth I have given to My servants is lawful for them, and I have created all My servants as monotheists. The devils came to them and led them astray from the path of guidance. The devils, through deception, made unlawful for them what I had declared lawful, and they commanded them to associate with Me those for whom I had sent down no authority regarding shirk. Then Allah Almighty looked upon the people of the earth, and except for a few remnants among the People of the Book, He was displeased with all the non-Arabs and Arabs. Allah said: I have sent you (i.e., Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) to test you and to test people through you, and I have revealed to you a Book which water cannot erase; you will recite it in both sleep and wakefulness. Then Allah Almighty commanded me to burn the Quraysh (i.e., to destroy them). I said: O Lord! Then these people will break my head and make it like a piece of bread. Allah Almighty said: Just as they expelled you from the city, you will expel them in the same way. You (peace and blessings be upon him) will fight them and We will help you. You (peace and blessings be upon him) will spend on them and We will grant you more. You (peace and blessings be upon him) will send an army and We will send five armies like it. Those who obey you (peace and blessings be upon him), take them with you and fight against your disobedient ones. Three types of people are dwellers of Paradise: a just and generous ruler, a merciful person who is soft-hearted towards every relative and Muslim, and poor people who avoid sins and, by Allah’s grace, spend in His way. And five types of people are dwellers of Hell: a foolish poor person who follows you around, having no desire for family or wealth; a treacherous person for whom nothing entrusted remains hidden, even if it is small, he betrays in it; a man who, morning and evening, that is, at every moment, seeks to deceive you regarding your family and wealth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also mentioned miserliness, lying, and bad character.
