It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us after Asr until near sunset. Some of us remembered it and some forgot it, and in this sermon, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned important matters that would occur until the Day of Judgment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This world is lush, sweet, and pleasing. Allah appoints you as successors in this world, meaning when one generation passes, another takes its place. He observes how you act. Beware! Refrain from amassing the world and from being overly attached to women. Beware! The children of Adam have been created in different categories: among them are those who are born in a state of faith, live in a state of faith, and die in a state of faith; and among them are those who are born in a state of disbelief, live in a state of disbelief, and die in a state of disbelief. And among them are those who are born in a state of disbelief, live in a state of disbelief, and die in a state of faith. And among them are those who are born in a state of faith, live in a state of faith, and die in a state of disbelief. Beware! Anger is a burning coal that burns in a person's belly. Do you not see that when a person is angry, his eyes become red and his veins swell? When any of you is overtaken by such a state, he should lie down on the ground. Beware! The best among people is the one who is slow to anger and quick to be pleased, and the worst person is the one who is quick to anger and slow to calm down. And the one who is slow to anger and slow to calm down, or the one who is quick to anger and quick to calm down, then these qualities are opposed to each other, meaning a good quality compensates for the bad quality. Among traders, the best is the one who pays well and demands his right well, and the worst trader is the one whose manner of payment is bad and whose manner of demanding his right is also bad. And whoever pays well but demands wrongly, or pays badly but demands well, then the good quality compensates for the bad quality. Beware! For every deceiver, a flag will be set up on the Day of Judgment as a sign, and the greater his deception, the higher his flag will be. The greatest deception is that of the ruler over the common people. Beware! Whoever knows the truth should not let the fear of people prevent him from speaking the truth. Beware! Remember that speaking the word of truth before a tyrant ruler is the best jihad. And when the sun was about to set, he said: The example of the elapsed period of the world and the remaining period of the world is like the remaining part of the day compared to the part of the day that has passed.
