Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away on Monday, the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the 11th year of Hijrah. The news of this heart-wrenching event immediately spread among the noble Companions, and the world became dark for them, and it was near that they would lose their senses. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu stood in the mosque saying that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not pass away until Allah annihilates the hypocrites, and he was threatening to cut down and kill anyone who said that the Prophet had passed away. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu delivered a brief speech in which he recited verses indicating the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, until Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu accepted the decision of the Prophet’s passing. Then the issue of caliphate and succession arose, and discussions and debates on this topic began among various groups, and in the Saqifah of Banu Sa'idah, the pledge of allegiance was given to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu. Due to such circumstances, the rest of Monday and the night of Tuesday passed. On Tuesday, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was given the ritual bath (ghusl) without removing his clothes. In the meantime, the issue of digging the grave also arose and was resolved, as has been mentioned in previous ahadith. After the preparation and shrouding, the noble Companions continued to perform the funeral prayer in groups, until the entire day of Tuesday and most of the night of Wednesday passed, and in the latter part of that night, the pure body of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was consigned to the earth.
