Sayyiduna Abu Usayba or Abu Asim (may Allah be pleased with him), who was present at the funeral prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: The Companions said, "How should we offer the funeral prayer for you (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said, "Enter in groups." So they would enter through that door, offer the prayer for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and then leave through the other door. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was placed in the grave, Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that there was some space near the feet of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that needed to be fixed. The Companions said to him, "Go into the grave and fix it." He went inside, put his hand in, and touched the blessed feet of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and at the same time said, "Put soil over me." The Companions put soil over him until it reached halfway up his shins. After that, he came out. He used to say, "Among all of you, I have the honor of being the last to touch the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
