Hadith 11006

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that during the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we tried to put medicine in his mouth, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured that do not give me medicine in this way. I said that you (peace and blessings be upon him) are disliking medicine like an ordinary patient, but when you (peace and blessings be upon him) regained consciousness, you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Did I not forbid you people from putting medicine in my mouth? Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now medicine should be put in the mouth of each one of you, except Abbas, because he was not present at that time.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Ladud: To turn the patient’s tongue to one side and administer medicine from the other side, and to move it slightly with the finger—this is called ladud.

The household of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) administered this medicine thinking it was the illness of pleurisy (dhat al-janb), but then the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) reproached them for it. For an explanation of the illness of pleurisy (dhat al-janb), see Hadith number (7689).
