عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعَا عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ بِصَحِيفَةٍ لِيَكْتُبَ فِيهَا كِتَابًا لَا يَضِلُّونَ بَعْدَهَا قَالَ فَخَالَفَ عَلَيْهَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ حَتَّى رَفَضَهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before his passing requested a scroll so that he could have something written on it by which people would not go astray after him, but Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) disagreed with this, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself abandoned this intention.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this way, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not have any written document prepared, rather he abandoned this intention altogether, because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained alive for three days after this incident. If this writing had been necessary, then later the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would have ensured its arrangement.
