It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me towards Yemen. There I met two men named Dhu’l-Kila‘ and Dhu‘Amr. I informed them about some matters regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then we came and saw some riders approaching from the direction of Madinah. We asked them: What is the matter? They informed us: The Messenger of Allah has passed away, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) has been chosen as the Caliph, and the people are content, meaning the situation is calm and reassuring. Dhu’l-Kila‘ and Dhu‘Amr said to me: Please inform your Caliph (that we had come). After that, they came to me again. I met Dhu‘Amr, and he said to me: Jarir! You will remain upon goodness for a time, until the first leader passes away and you appoint another person as leader. When the sword is drawn, you will become like ordinary kings: just as they become angry over trivial matters, you too will begin to act like them, and just as they become happy over small things, you too will begin to rejoice over minor matters.
