بَابُ أَمْرِ الصِّبْيَانِ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَمَا جَاءَ فِيمَنْ رُفِعَ عَنْهُمُ الْقَلَمُChapter on Commanding Children to Pray and What Has Been Reported Regarding Those for Whom the Pen Is Lifted
Hadith 1093

عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مُرُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ إِذَا بَلَغُوا سَبْعًا وَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا بَلَغُوا عَشْرًا وَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَهُمْ فِي الْمَضَاجِعِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Start commanding your children to perform prayer when they reach the age of seven, and when they reach the age of ten, (if they are negligent in prayer) then discipline them and separate their beds.
