It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I participated in the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw that only I and Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan bin Harith bin Abdul Muttalib (peace and blessings be upon him) remained with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We stayed close to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and did not separate from him. He was riding his white mule, which had been sent to him as a gift by Farwah bin Naa’mah Jazami. When the Muslims and disbelievers confronted each other, the Muslims turned their backs and fled, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spurred his mule forward towards the disbelievers. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was holding the bridle of the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mule, trying to restrain it a little, but he kept urging it quickly towards the polytheists. Abu Sufyan bin Harith was holding the stirrup of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Abbas! Call the people of Samurah.” (These were the people who had pledged allegiance under the acacia tree.) They were loud-voiced men. He called out: “Where are the people of Samurah?” By Allah, when they heard my voice, they immediately returned just as a cow runs towards her calf, and as soon as they arrived, they said: “Here we are, here we are!” The rest of the Muslims also returned, and fighting took place between them and the disbelievers. The Ansar called out to each other: “O group of Ansar!” Then those who called out sufficed by calling with the name of their superior and said: “O descendants of Harith bin Khazraj!” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked out from atop his mule towards the battlefield and said: “Now the battle has heated up.” Then he took a handful of pebbles and threw them at the faces of the disbelievers and said: “By the Lord of the Ka’bah! By the Lord of the Ka’bah! They have been defeated and have fled.” When I looked, it seemed to me as if the battle was still ongoing. By Allah, as soon as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) threw the pebbles, I saw their edge become blunt, meaning their morale was broken and their condition weakened, until Allah Almighty made them suffer defeat. It is as if this scene is still before my eyes, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was spurring his mule behind them.
