It is narrated from Abdullah bin Rabah that several delegations came to the service of Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) during the month of Ramadan. I was also among them. We used to invite each other for meals. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) would often invite us to his house. So I thought, why shouldn't I also prepare food and invite these gentlemen to my place? Accordingly, I ordered food to be prepared. At the time of Isha, I met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), so I said, "Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), tonight you are invited to my place." He replied, "You have beaten me to it." I said, "Yes! I have invited them." They all came to my place. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Ansar! Shall I not tell you something related to you?" Then he mentioned the conquest of Makkah: that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and entered Makkah. He appointed Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) over one part of the army, either the right or the left, and Khalid bin Walid over the other part, and Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) over those who were not armored. These gentlemen took the path of the valley. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was with his own detachment. The Quraysh had also gathered many tribes. The people said, "Let them go ahead. If they get something, we will be with them. And if they are attacked, we will give whatever is demanded from us." Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and called out, "Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)!" I replied, "O Messenger of Allah! I am present." He said, "Call the Ansar to me, and remember, only the Ansar should come to me." I called the Ansar, and they came and surrounded the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, "Do you see the tribes and people of Quraysh?" He placed one hand over the other and gestured, "Destroy them and come to me at Mount Safa." Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "We set out from there, and each of us killed as many of them as he wished. None of them confronted us." Abu Sufyan said, "O Messenger of Allah! The groups of Quraysh have been killed. If this continues, after today no Qurayshi will remain." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever closes the door of his house is safe, and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is also safe." So the people closed the doors of their houses. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the Black Stone, kissed it, and then performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah. He had a bow in his hand, holding one end of it. During Tawaf, he reached an idol that was placed on one side of the Ka'bah, which the people used to worship. He began striking the idol's eye with his bow and said, {جَاء َ الْحَقُّ وَزَہَقَ الْبَاطِلُ} "Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished away." (Surah Bani Isra'il: 81) After that, he went to Mount Safa and climbed it until the Ka'bah became visible to him. He raised his hands and continued to remember Allah and supplicate. The Ansar were standing below in front of him. Some of them began saying to each other, "This man (meaning the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) has been overtaken by longing for his city and his family." Right there, revelation began to descend upon him. When revelation would begin to descend upon him, we would know. Until the revelation ceased, no one would look up towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the revelation ended, he raised his head and said, "O Ansar! You have said that he has been overtaken by longing for his city and love for his family." They replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), indeed we have said such things." He said, "If that were so, then what would my name be? Beware! I am Allah's servant and His Messenger. I have migrated to you for the sake of Allah's pleasure. My living and dying is with you." So the Ansar, weeping, came forward to him and said, "By Allah, whatever we have said is only out of intense love for Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), lest you leave us and return to Makkah." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) confirm your words and accept your excuse."
