It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on a cold morning and saw that the Muhajirun and Ansar were digging the trench. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! The real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun. In response, the Companions said: We are those who have pledged allegiance to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that we will continue to strive in jihad as long as we live.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In one narration, it is mentioned that at that time barley bread and a foul-smelling broth were brought to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, but all of them ate it, and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “True goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter.”
This is the condition of the leader of both worlds; if worldly adornment and embellishment were something to be proud of, then you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not have been deprived of it. Certainly, the real goodness and virtue is that which will be attained after death, because whether the days of this world are spent in prosperity or adversity, in the end, one must depart from here, and such a departure after which there is no way or hope of return. However, those whom Allah Ta’ala has granted wealth and riches, they should live as captives of the Shari‘ah and fulfill the rights of Allah Ta’ala’s blessings.
Whether it is the winter season, a thousand people have to dig a trench a mile long, stones are tied to their stomachs due to hunger, there is a severe shortage of food items, and on top of that, such a large number of enemies is advancing upon them that because of it, the people of Madinah were in a state of fear—this was the situation:
{اِذْجَاءُوْکُمْمِّنْفَوْقِکُمْوَمِنْاَسْفَلَمِنْکُمْوَاِذْزَاغَتِالْاَبْصَارُوَبَلَغَتِالْقُلُوْبُالْحَـنَاجِرَوَتَظُنُّوْنَبِاللّٰہِالظُّنُوْنَا۔ہُنَالِکَابْتُلِیَالْمُؤْمِنُوْنَوَزُلْزِلُوْازِلْزَالًاشَدِیْدًا۔} … When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes swerved and the hearts reached the throats, and you were thinking thoughts about Allah, various thoughts. There the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking. (Surah al-Ahzab: 10, 11)
If this was the situation, then what did such personalities see of the world? But the world was not their priority either; rather, they were desirous only of the goodness and virtue of the Hereafter, which they were receiving under the leadership and shade of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
