It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw in a dream as if I was inside a secure, strong fortress, and I saw a slaughtered cow. I interpreted it that the secure and strong fortress refers to Madinah Munawwarah, and by Allah, seeing the cow is also good. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) consulted the companions and said: If we stay in Madinah, and if the enemy attacks us, then we will fight them. What is your opinion about this? The companions said: O Messenger of Allah! The enemy did not come upon us in our city even when we were disbelievers, so now that we have entered Islam, how can they come upon us in our city? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the companions and said: Alright, do as you wish. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adorned his body with his weapons. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that seeing this, the Ansar said among themselves that we have acted contrary to the opinion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). (May Allah bring good) So they came and said: O Prophet of Allah! Act upon your own opinion. But now the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not appropriate for a Prophet that when he has armed himself with weapons, he should remove them without fighting the enemy.
