It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr, I received a camel from the spoils of war in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had also given me another camel. One day, I made both camels sit near the door of an Ansari. I wanted to cut some izkhir grass, load it onto them, and take it to sell. With me was a money-changer from Banu Qaynuqa, and I intended to spend the money obtained from this for the wedding feast (walima) of Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her). In that house of the Ansari, Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting and drinking wine, when suddenly he got up with a sword, rushed towards the camels, cut off their humps, ripped open their sides, took out their livers, and left. Ibn Jurayj, the narrator, says: I asked my teacher Zuhri what happened to the humps? He said: He also cut them off and took them with him. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Seeing this scene, I became frightened and anxious, and immediately went to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, Sayyiduna Zayd bin Haritha (may Allah be pleased with him) was also present there. I related the whole incident to you (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) set out from there and went to Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) and expressed their displeasure. Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) turned his gaze and said: You people are only slaves of my father. Hearing this from Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back and returned. This incident occurred before the prohibition of wine.
