Hadith 10718

عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ صَفَفْنَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَنَدَرَتْ مِنَّا نَادِرَةٌ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ فَبَدَرَتْ مِنَّا بَادِرَةٌ) أَمَامَ الصَّفِّ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ مَعِي مَعِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr, when we formed ranks, some of us who were hasty went ahead of the row. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) looked towards them and said: Stay with me.

Benefits: … Maintaining excellent discipline in war is extremely necessary. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to participate in jihad alongside his companions and at the same time would also lead them.
