It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the people of Badr that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was showing us, a day before the Battle of Badr, the places where the chiefs of Quraysh would fall and be left behind, and he was saying: "Tomorrow, insha’Allah, such-and-such disbeliever will be killed and fall here, and such-and-such person will be killed and fall here, insha’Allah." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that indeed those people fell exactly at those places. I (Umar) (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the One Who sent you with the truth! They did not fall anywhere except those very spots." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding their corpses, so they were dragged and thrown into a well. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards the corpses of those disbelievers and said: "O so-and-so! O so-and-so! Did you find true what your Lord had promised you? As for me, I have found true what Allah the Exalted had promised me." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you speaking to people who have died?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You do not hear what I am saying to them any better than they do, but they cannot respond to these words."
