It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: On the day of Badr, I reached Abu Jahl, he had been struck on his leg and had fallen down, and even in that state, he was driving people away from himself with his sword. I said: O enemy of Allah! Praise be to that Allah who has disgraced you. He replied: I am the one whom his own people have killed. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) stated that upon his saying this, I finally struck his hand with my sword and his sword fell down. Then I firmly caught hold of him, struck him, and killed him. Then, in the heat, I happily walked to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so happy that my feet were not touching the ground. I told you the whole story. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, really? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his words three times. I said: Really, by Allah, besides whom there is no deity! Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked with me until he stood by his (Abu Jahl’s) corpse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O enemy of Allah! Praise be to Allah who has humiliated and disgraced you. He was the Pharaoh of this Ummah. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gifted me the sword of Abu Jahl.
