Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This was the generosity and excellence of the Ansar that they wished to surpass one another in hosting and accommodating the Muhajirun; they were the true embodiment of Allah Ta’ala’s statement: {وَالَّذِیْنَ تَبَوَّؤُ الدَّارَ وَالْاِیْمَانَ مِنْ قَبْلِہِمْ یُحِبُّوْنَ مَنْ ہَاجَرَ اِلَیْہِمْ وَلَا یَجِدُوْنَ فِیْ صُدُوْرِہِمْ حَاجَۃً مِّمَّآ اُوْتُوْا وَیُؤْثِرُوْنَ عَلٰٓی اَنْفُسِہِمْ وَلَوْ کَانَ بِہِمْ خَصَاصَۃٌ وَمَنْ یُّوْقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِہٖفَاُولٰیِکَ ہُمُ الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ} … “And (for) those who had settled in the Home (Madinah) and (in) faith before them, they love those who emigrated to them and find in their hearts no desire for what is given to them (the emigrants), but give them preference over themselves, even though they are in need. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul—it is those who will be the successful.” (Surah al-Hashr: 9)

Then the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) further strengthened this love and selflessness by establishing brotherhood between the Ansar and the Muhajirun. Thus, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made each Ansari and his guest (the Muhajir) brothers; they were in total ninety men, half from the Muhajirun and half from the Ansar. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) established brotherhood between them on the basis of mutual sympathy and on the condition that, instead of their blood relatives, they would inherit from one another after death. Later, the ruling of inheritance was abrogated, but the brotherhood remained.
