Hadith 10643

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about migration (hijrah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You would be ruined, for it is a very difficult matter. Well, do you have camels? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you give their zakat? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you give gifts from them? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: On the day of watering, do you milk them and give it to people? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then surely, even if you continue to act across the seas, Allah will not diminish anything from your deeds.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … On this occasion, when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw that this man would not be able to fulfill the rights of migration (hijrah), he permitted him not to become involved in this matter. This was from the wisdom and sagacity of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he would take into account the abilities of people. All the esteemed scholars and preachers of Islam should also be mindful of expediency and wisdom. However, the general public is advised not to display laziness and indolence by only considering the texts that grant concessions (rukhsah); they should also pay attention to the texts that emphasize resolve and determination (‘azimah). Then, if someone is truly excused, they may act upon the concession. In this context, “gift” (atiyyah) refers to an animal that is given to someone for a need, on the condition that it will be returned after the need is fulfilled.
