Hadith 10586

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw my Lord, the Exalted. Abdullah bin Imam Ahmad says: I heard this hadith from my father, and he had dictated this hadith to me at another place.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This hadith has also been narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma in a mawquf (stopped) form; its wording is as follows:
Ikrimah says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma said: "Muhammad saw his Lord." I (Ikrimah) said: "Did Allah not say: { لَا تُدْرِکُہُ الْأَبْصَارُ وَہُوَ یُدْرِکُ الْأَبْصَارَ}?" He said: "Woe to you! That verse refers to when He manifests Himself with His Light, which is His Light." And he said: "He (the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw Him twice." … Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw his Lord. I, Ikrimah, said: "Did Allah not say: 'Eyes do not perceive Him, but He perceives the eyes'?" He said: "You will perish! That verse refers to the situation when He manifests with His Light. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw Allah Almighty twice." (Tirmidhi: 329, Shaykh al-Albani has declared this mawquf narration to be weak.)

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma, while explaining the statement of Allah Almighty {مَا کَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأٰی}, said: "Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, with his heart twice." … Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw his Lord, the Exalted and Majestic, with his heart twice. (Sahih Muslim: 176, and the wording is from Ahmad 1956)

However, from hadith number (10590) it is understood that in the verses of Surah al-Najm, there is no mention of seeing Allah Almighty, rather, it is the mention of seeing Jibril alayhis salam.

However, from hadith numbers (8978, 8979) it is understood that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw Allah Almighty in a dream.
