Hadith 10584

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Sidrat al-Muntaha was raised for me in the seventh heaven; its fruit was like the jars of Hajar and its leaves were like the ears of elephants. From its trunk, two apparent rivers and two hidden rivers were flowing. I said: O Jibril! What are these two things? He said: The two hidden rivers are going into Paradise, and these two apparent rivers are the Nile and the Euphrates.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is possible that the roots and trunk of the Sidrat al-Muntaha begin from the sixth heaven, and its branches are in the seventh heaven.

Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah said: Just as the origin of man is from Paradise, similarly it is possible that the origin of the Nile and Euphrates rivers is from Paradise. However, the reality of the matter is that these rivers spring forth from well-known sources. This apparent contradiction will be resolved as follows: the hadith pertains to matters of the unseen (ghayb), in which it is obligatory to have faith and to submit humbly before the one who conveys this information, about whom Allah the Exalted has said: {فَـلَا وَ رَبِّکَ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ حَتّٰییُحَکِّمُوْکَ فِیْمَاشَجَرَ بَیْنَہُمْ ثُمَّ لَایَجِدُوْا فِیْٓ اَنْفُسِہِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَیْتَ وَیُسَلِّمُوْا تَسْلِیْمًا ۔} (Surah al-Nisa: 65) … "But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission."
