Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The roof of my house was opened while I was in Makkah, and Jibreel descended. He split open my chest, washed it with the water of Zamzam, then brought a golden tray filled with wisdom and faith, poured it into my chest, and then closed it up. Then he took my hand and ascended with me towards the heavens. When we reached the lowest heaven, he asked for the door to be opened. The gatekeeper said: Who is this? He said: Jibreel. He said: Is there anyone with you? He said: Yes, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me. He said: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. So the door was opened for us. When we ascended above the lowest heaven, I saw a man, and on his right were some beings and on his left were some beings. He would look to his right and smile, and look to his left and weep. He said to me: Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous son. I asked Jibreel: Who is this? He said: This is Adam (peace be upon him), and these beings on his right and left are the souls of his children. Those on the right are the people of Paradise, and those on the left are the people of Hell. That is why he smiles when he looks to his right and weeps when he looks to his left. Then Jibreel took me further until we reached the second heaven and asked the gatekeeper to open the door. He said the same things as the gatekeeper of the lowest heaven had said.
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then he narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found Adam, Idris, Musa, Isa, and Ibrahim (peace be upon them) in the heavens, but I do not remember their exact stations (i.e., which heaven each was in). However, I do remember that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found Adam (peace be upon him) in the lowest heaven and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in the sixth heaven. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When Jibreel (peace be upon him) and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Idris (peace be upon him), he said: Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I asked: Who is this? Jibreel said: This is Idris (peace be upon him). Then I passed by Musa (peace be upon him), and he said to me: Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother. I asked: Who is this? He said: This is Musa (peace be upon him). Then I passed by Isa (peace be upon him), and he said: Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous brother. I asked: Who is this? He said: This is Isa son of Maryam (peace be upon him). Then I passed by Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and he said: Welcome, righteous Prophet and righteous son. I asked: Who is this? He said: This is Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Ibn Hazm said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Abu Habba Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then he took me further until I ascended to such a level that I heard the sound of pens writing.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah the Exalted made fifty prayers obligatory upon my Ummah. So I returned with them and passed by Musa (peace be upon him), who asked me: What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah? I said: Allah the Exalted has made fifty prayers obligatory upon them. Musa (peace be upon him) said to me: Return to your Lord, for your Ummah will not be able to bear that. So I returned to my Lord, and He reduced it by half. I returned again to Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him of the situation. He said: Go back to your Lord, for your Ummah cannot do this. So I went back to my Lord again. Allah the Exalted said: These are five and they are (rewarded as) fifty. My word does not change with Me. So I returned to Musa (peace be upon him), and he again said: Go back to your Lord, but I said: Now I feel shy before my Lord, the Exalted. Then Jibreel took me to Sidrat al-Muntaha. It had many colors, and I do not know what they were. Then I was admitted into Paradise, where I saw domes of pearls and its soil was musk.
