Hadith 10550

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the people of Hell, the lightest punishment will be for Abu Talib; he will be made to wear two sandals of fire, due to which his brain will begin to boil.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … When the age of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam reached eight years, two months, and ten days, his grandfather Abdul Muttalib passed away. After him, your uncle Abu Talib took up the responsibility of your care; he was the real brother of your father. He showed you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam special mercy and affection for a long period. You sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained under his protection until the time of the proclamation of Prophethood, that is, until the age of forty. Then, when you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam announced Prophethood and Messengership, Abu Talib proved to be such a protector, supporter, and fortress for you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that the Islamic call found refuge with him against the attacks of the elders and fools of Makkah. However, he himself remained upon the religion of his forefathers, and thus was not able to achieve complete success. For the first ten years of Prophethood, you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had the support of your uncle. Abu Talib passed away in the tenth year of Prophethood.

After Abu Talib, Sayyidah Khadijah radi Allahu anha also passed away in the same year. In this way, this year proved to be ‘Aam al-Huzn (the Year of Grief) for you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and after that, a series of calamities befell you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
