It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the occasion of (the Farewell Pilgrimage): Tomorrow, if Allah wills, we will camp in the valley of Banu Kinanah, that is, the valley of Muhassab, where the Quraysh had sworn an oath upon disbelief, and at this place, Banu Kinanah, together with the Quraysh, made an agreement in opposition to Banu Hashim that they would neither marry with them, nor buy or sell with them, nor give them shelter. After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A disbeliever does not inherit from a Muslim, nor does a Muslim inherit from a disbeliever. Imam Zuhri says: "Kheef" refers to a valley.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, after completing the ritual of stoning the Jamarat on the thirteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah, was to return towards Makkah Mukarramah, he intended to camp in the Valley of Khayf. This valley is also called Muhassab, Abtah, and Batha.
Benefits: … The camping of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the Valley of Khayf was not merely coincidental, rather he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed there deliberately. As Hafiz Ibn Qayyim rahimahullah has stated in (Zad al-Ma'ad): The purpose of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was to manifest the symbols of Islam at that place where the disbelievers, by showing enmity to Allah and His Messenger, had manifested the symbols of disbelief. It was the blessed habit of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that he would establish the symbols of tawhid (monotheism) at the places of disbelief and polytheism, just as he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered that the mosque of Ta’if be built at the location of Lat and ‘Uzza.
As for the issue of the narration in Sahih Muslim, in which Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha states that staying in the Valley of Abtah (Valley of Muhassab) is not a Sunnah, and Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu says that this camping has no significance:
The researchers have given two answers to these narrations: (1) The affirmative is given precedence over the negative, (2) There is, in fact, no contradiction or conflict between the two, because the intent of those who negate is that staying at this place is not among the rites of Hajj such that omitting it would necessitate any expiation, and those who affirm it intended that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam be followed in all his actions, but they too do not consider it obligatory.
