عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الْإِسْلَامَ بِأَحَبِّ هَذَيْنِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ إِلَيْكَ بِأَبِي جَهْلٍ أَوْ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَكَانَ أَحَبَّهُمَا إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Grant dominance to Islam through the one who is more beloved to You between Abu Jahl and Umar bin Khattab. Thus, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was more beloved to Allah Almighty.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This supplication of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was accepted in favor of Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab radi Allahu anhu, and indeed, through him, Islam was granted ascendancy.
