Narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin ‘Abad Daili (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to the era of ignorance, then he became a Muslim, he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my eyes saw him in the market of Dhu’l-Majaz, he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the streets of this market, while people had crowded around him, I did not see anyone saying anything, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not remaining silent, he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. However, there was a man following behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), he was squint-eyed, had a handsome face, and had two braids, he was saying: This is an irreligious and lying person. I asked: Who is this man? People said: This is Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he is proclaiming prophethood. I asked: Who is the one denying him? They said: This is his uncle Abu Lahab. I asked: So were you young in those days? He said: No, by Allah! Indeed, I was sensible on that day.
