It is narrated from ‘Ala bin Ziyad ‘Adawi that he said to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): O Abu Hamzah! When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent as a Prophet, how old was he at that time? He said: Forty years. He asked: Then what happened? He said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Makkah for ten years and in Madinah for ten years, thus his age became sixty years, then Allah Almighty caused him (peace and blessings be upon him) to pass away. He asked: In those days, what kind of age did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appear to be? He said: Like the most vigorous youth, the most handsome and well-built. He asked: O Abu Hamzah! Did you participate in jihad with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes, I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Battle of Hunayn.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There is a difference of opinion regarding the duration of the stay of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Makkah Mukarramah, and due to this duration, there is also a difference regarding the age of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Imam Nawawi rahimahullah said: Imam Muslim has mentioned a total of three narrations in this chapter: 1. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away at the age of sixty years (and stayed in Makkah for ten years). 2. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was sixty-five years old (and stayed in Makkah for fifteen years). 3. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was sixty-three years old (and stayed in Makkah for thirteen years).
The last narration is more authentic and well-known. Imam Muslim has narrated this from Sayyidah Aisha, Sayyiduna Anas, and Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhum. The scholars are in agreement that the most authentic narration is the one stating sixty-three years of age. They have interpreted the remaining narrations; regarding the narration of sixty years, it is said that only the decades were considered and the units were omitted (and the Arabs used to do this), similarly, the narration of sixty-five years will also be interpreted in this way.
It is also agreed upon that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed in Madinah Munawwarah for ten years, and before prophethood, the age of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was forty years. The only difference is regarding the duration of the stay in Makkah. The preferred and correct view is that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed in Makkah for thirteen years after prophethood. In this way, the blessed age of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam becomes (63) years.
