بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَرْعَى الْغَنَمَ فِي صِغَرِهِ وَحِفْظِ اللَّهِ لَهُ وَحَيَاطَتِهِ وَصَيَانَتِهِ مِنْ أَقْدَارِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِChapter: What has been reported regarding his herding of sheep in his youth, Allah's protection and care for him, and his preservation from the corruptions of the Age of Ignorance
Hadith 10471

عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَجْتَنِي الْكَبَاثَ فَقَالَ ((عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَسْوَدِ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ أَطْيَبُهُ)) قَالَ قُلْنَا وَكُنْتَ تَرْعَى الْغَنَمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ((نَعَمْ وَهَلْ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا قَدْ رَعَاهَا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were picking the fruit of the arak tree with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pick the black ones, for indeed they are the best. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you also herd goats? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, in fact every prophet has herded goats.
