It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd Salma (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! How did your matter begin? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My wet nurse was from Banu Sa’d bin Ka’b. I and her son went out to graze goats and did not take provisions with us. I said: O my brother! Go and bring provisions from our mother. So he went, and I stayed with the goats. I saw that two white birds, like vultures (in reality, they were two angels), came. One of them said to the other: Is this the one? Then they rushed towards me, seized me, and laid me down on my back. Then they split open my belly, took out my heart, split it open, and took out two clots of black blood from it. Then one of them said to the other: Bring water of snow. So they washed my belly. Then one said: Bring water of hail. So they washed my heart. Then one said: Now bring tranquility. So they sprinkled it into my heart. Then one said to the other: Now sew him up. So he sewed me up and sealed it with the seal of Prophethood. In another narration, it is said: One angel said: You sew him up. So he sewed me up. Then he said: Now put the seal of Prophethood on him. After that, one said to the other: Place him in one pan of the scale and place a thousand men from his Ummah in the other pan. (I was so heavy that) I saw those thousand people above me in such a way that I feared someone might fall on me. Then one angel said: If this being is weighed against his entire Ummah, he will still be heavier. Then both of them left me. I was very frightened and anxious. Then I went to my mother and told her what I had seen. She too became afraid that something suspicious had happened to me. She said: I place you in the protection of Allah Almighty. Then she prepared a camel, made me sit on the saddle, and herself sat behind me, until we reached my (biological) mother. The wet nurse said: I have fulfilled my trust and responsibility. Then when my mother was told the whole incident, she did not become anxious. Rather, she said: I saw a light emerge from me by which the palaces of Syria were illuminated.
