Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The blessed birth of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam occurred on a Monday; this is a unanimously agreed-upon fact. However, there is a difference of opinion regarding the date in the lunar month. Several views have been mentioned, among which the following two are:
1 … The 9th of Rabi' al-Awwal Ibn Abd al-Barr has transmitted that historians have deemed this view to be correct. According to Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, this is the definitive and certain opinion. Ibn Hazm has also given preference to this view, and Abu Khattab ibn Dihyah has adopted this opinion in his book "Al-Tanweer fi Mawlid al-Basheer al-Nadheer."
2 … The 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal This is the opinion of Ibn Ishaq.
The first view is the preferred one, and it was in the same year that Abraha attacked Makkah, which is known as the Year of the Elephant ('Aam al-Feel). On that day, it was the 22nd of April, 571 CE.
