Hadith 10457

عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَخَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّينَ وَإِنَّ آدَمَ لَمُنْجَدِلٌ فِي طِينَتِهِ وَسَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِتَأْوِيلِ ذَلِكَ دَعْوَةِ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَبَشَارَةِ عِيسَى قَوْمَهُ وَرُؤْيَا أُمِّي الَّتِي رَأَتْ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مِنْهَا نُورٌ أَضَاءَتْ لَهُ قُصُورُ الشَّامِ وَكَذَلِكَ تَرَى أُمَّهَاتُ النَّبِيِّينَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am the servant of Allah, who was written as the Seal of the Prophets in Umm al-Kitab at a time when Adam (peace be upon him) was still lying in his clay, and soon I will explain its interpretation to you. I am the answer to the supplication of my father Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the glad tidings of ‘Isa (peace be upon him), and the dream of my mother. My mother saw in a dream that a light emerged from her, which illuminated the palaces of Syria for her, and the mothers of the Prophets used to see similar dreams. May Allah’s mercy be upon them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the opening part of the blessed hadith, the issue of predestination (qadar) is mentioned, that even before the creation of Adam alayhis salam, the decision regarding these attributes of you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had already been made.
Ibrahim alayhis salam supplicated for you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in these words: {رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِیْہِمْ رَسُوْلًا مِّنْھُمْ یَتْلُوْا عَلَیْھِمْ اٰیٰتِکَ وَ یُعَلِّمُہُمُ الْکِتٰبَ وَالْحِکْمَۃَ وَیُزَکِّیْہِمْ اِنَّکَ اَنْتَ الْعَزِیْزُ الْحَکِیْمُ} … "Our Lord! And raise up in them a Messenger from among themselves who will recite to them Your verses, and teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Surely, You alone are the Mighty, the Wise." (Surah al-Baqarah: 129)
‘Isa alayhis salam gave glad tidings regarding the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and Allah Ta‘ala, mentioning this, said: {وَاِذْ قَالَ عِیْسَی ابْنُ مَرْیَمَ ٰیبَنِیْٓ اِسْرَآئِیْلَ اِنِّیْ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ اِلَیْکُمْ مُّصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَیْنَیَدَیَّ مِنَ التَّوْرٰئۃِ وَ مُبَشِّرًا بِرَسُوْلٍ یَّاْتِیْ مِنْ بَعْدِی اسْمُہٗٓاَحْمَدُ } … "And when ‘Isa son of Maryam said, 'O Children of Israel! Indeed, I am the Messenger of Allah to you, confirming what came before me of the Torah, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me, whose name is Ahmad.' But when he came to them with clear signs, they said, 'This is manifest magic.'" (Surah as-Saff: 6)
