It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ash’ath bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a delegation. The people of that delegation did not think that I was superior among them, so I said: O Messenger of Allah! We think that you are from among us? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are Banu Nadr bin Kinana; we neither accuse our mother nor deny our father. Ash’ath used to say: If anyone was brought to me who denied the connection of the Quraysh to Nadr bin Kinana, I would have him flogged as a prescribed punishment.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Considering the first hadith of this chapter, reflect upon the lineage of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam:
Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam son of Abdullah, son of Abdul Muttalib, son of Hashim, son of Abd Manaf, son of Qusayy, son of Kilab, son of Murrah, son of Ka‘b, son of Lu’ayy, son of Ghalib, son of Fihr, son of Malik, son of Nadr, son of Kinana, son of Khuzaymah, son of Mudrikah, son of Ilyas, son of Mudar, son of Nizar, son of Ma‘ad, son of Adnan. Adnan is, by consensus, from the progeny of Hazrat Isma‘il alayhis salam, but how many generations are between them and what their names are—there is considerable difference of opinion regarding this.
You belonged to the tribe of Quraysh, which was the most honored tribe in all of Arabia. Quraysh was actually the title of Fihr ibn Malik or Nadr ibn Kinana; later, his descendants became famous by this attribution.
In this blessed hadith, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has mentioned one characteristic of his tribe.
