It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail at a lower place of Baldah. This was before the revelation descended upon you (peace and blessings be upon him). You (peace and blessings be upon him) presented him with a bag, in which there was meat, but he refused to eat from it and said: Surely, I do not eat that which you slaughter on your altars; I only eat that upon which the name of Allah Almighty is mentioned. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl was the paternal cousin of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab radi Allahu anhu. He had abandoned the worship of idols and had separated himself from the religion of the polytheists, and he would only eat the meat of an animal that was slaughtered in the name of Allah, the Exalted.
Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr radi Allahu anha says: I met Zayd bin Amr; he was sitting leaning against the Ka‘bah and saying: O Quraysh! By the One in whose hand is Zayd’s soul! None among you follows the religion of Ibrahim except me. Then he would say: O Allah! If I knew which face is most beloved to You, I would worship You through it. … He would pray facing the Ka‘bah and say: The God of Ibrahim alayhis salam is my God, and the religion of Ibrahim alayhis salam is my religion. He would not bury daughters alive; rather, when someone wanted to kill his daughter, he would say to him: Do not kill her, but give her to me, I will take care of her. Then, when she reaches maturity, you may take her back from me or leave her with me, as you wish.
Once, he set out towards Syria in search of the religion of Ibrahim among the People of the Book. He traveled around Mosul and Jazirah to question various people, then returned towards Syria and came to a church in the land of Balqa’ to a priest. People believed that this priest had complete knowledge of Christianity. He asked him about the Hanif religion of Ibrahim alayhis salam. The priest said: You are asking about a religion that today no one adheres to; its knowledge has been erased and those who knew it have passed away. However, the time has come for the appearance of a Prophet. Zayd bin Amr had set out in search of Judaism and Christianity, but nothing from these two religions pleased him. Then he left from there and hurried to reach Makkah Mukarramah, but when he passed through the region of Lakhm, those people attacked him and killed him. Warqah bin Nawfal recited an elegy for him, saying:
Rashadta wa an‘amta ibn ‘Amr wa innama Tajannabta tannuran min an-nari hamiya Bideenika rabban laysa rabban kamithlihi Wa tarkika awthan at-tawaghi kama hiya
O son of Amr! You were rightly guided and you did well, and you were saved from the blazing furnace of fire by considering as worthy of worship a Lord for whom there is none like Him, and by leaving the idols of the tyrants as they are.
