It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Namla Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the People of the Book relate something to you, neither affirm it nor deny it, but say: We believe in Allah, His Books, and His Messengers. Thus, if what they say is true, you have not denied it, and if it is false, you have not affirmed it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Since the Torah and the Gospel have been altered, and there remains no such criterion in the religious literature of the Jews and Christians by which it can be determined which part of these heavenly books is in accordance with reality and which part is contrary, during investigation, reference is made to the original text, and the language of these books has altogether disappeared. Therefore, upon hearing the traditions of Bani Isra'il, one should suffice with merely listening to them; neither should they be affirmed, for it is possible that they are false, nor should they be denied, for it is possible that they are correct.
However, in Islam, regarding those matters of the Torah and the Gospel about which clarification has already been given—whether they are in accordance with reality or are altered—their case is different.
