قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ سَمِعْتُ مُصْعَبَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِيِّ قَالَ جَاءَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ الْقَاصُّ عَلَى مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ قَوْمًا قَدْ نَهَوْنِي أَنْ أَقُصَّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ وَعَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَعَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِ فَقَالَ مَالِكٌ حَدِّثْ بِهِ وَقُصَّ بِهِ
Mus'ab Zubayri says: The storyteller Abu Talhah asked Imam Malik bin Anas, may Allah have mercy on him: O Abu Abdullah! Some people have forbidden me from narrating this hadith: May Allah send mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him), surely You are Praiseworthy and Glorious, and upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and upon his wives? Imam Malik said: You should narrate this hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd As-Sa‘idi radi Allahu anhu that the Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! How should we send blessings (salat) upon you? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Say: O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, his wives, and his descendants, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim alayhis salam. And send blessings and grant blessings upon Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, his wives, and his descendants, as You granted blessings upon the family of Ibrahim alayhis salam. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.” (Sahih al-Bukhari: 3369, Sahih Muslim: 407, and the wording is from Imam Malik)
