بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي صِفَتِهِ وَ شَمَائِلِهِ وَ نُزُولِهِ آخِرَ الزَّمَان وَحُكْمِهِ وَ مُدَّةٍ مَكْثِهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَحَجُهِ وَ فَنَاءِ كُلِّ مِلَّةِ غَيْرِ الْإِسْلامِ وَ وَفَاتِهِChapter: What has been reported regarding his description, characteristics, his descent at the end of time, his rule, the length of his stay on earth, his pilgrimage, the extinction of every religion except Islam, and his death
Hadith 10421

(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَيُهِلَّنَّ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ بِفَجِّ الرَّوْحَاءِ حَاجًّا أَوْ مُعْتَمِرًا أَوْ لَيُثَنِّيَنَّهُمَا
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! The son of Mary will surely proclaim the Talbiyah on the route of Rauha’, coming for Hajj or ‘Umrah or both.

Benefits: … Another hadith regarding ‘Isa alayhis salam:
Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “’Isa ibn Maryam will descend, and their leader, al-Mahdi, will say to him: ‘Come, lead us in prayer.’ He will say: ‘No, some of you are leaders over others; this is Allah’s honoring of this ummah.’” (Narrated by al-Harith ibn Abi Usamah in his Musnad, and the original hadith is in Sahih Muslim: 1/95, al-Sahihah: 2236)
Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah says: The original hadith is in Sahih Muslim, which is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu through another chain. He says that he heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “A group from my ummah will continue to fight upon the truth, manifest until the Day of Resurrection.” He said: “Then ‘Isa ibn Maryam sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will descend, and their leader will say: ‘Come, lead us in prayer.’ He will reply: ‘No, some of you are leaders over others; this is Allah’s honoring of this ummah.’” … A group of my ummah will remain dominant upon the truth until the Day of Resurrection. Then he said: ‘Isa ibn Maryam alayhis salam will descend, and the leader of the Muslims will say to him: ‘Come and lead us in prayer.’ He will reply: ‘No, you are leaders over one another; this will be an honor from Allah for this ummah.’
From this narration, it is understood that this leader will be Imam Mahdi. And with Allah is success. (al-Sahihah: 2236)
