Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am the closest of all people to Jesus son of Mary (peace be upon him) in this world and the Hereafter. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! How is that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different but their religion is one. So there is no prophet between me and Jesus (peace be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Consanguine brothers are those who share the same father but have different mothers. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam likened the fundamentals (usul) of religion to the father, and the branches (furu‘) of religion to the mothers; that is, the fundamentals of the religions of the Prophets and Messengers were the same, but the branches of the Shari‘ah (sacred law) were different.
Although there is a gap of approximately six centuries between the advent of ‘Isa alayhis salam and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, no other prophet came between these two personalities. In this respect, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is closer to ‘Isa alayhis salam.
