Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The sun was not stopped for any human being except for Yusha bin Nun, peace be upon him; this was during the days when he was heading towards Bayt al-Maqdis.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The sun, according to the system of Allah Ta’ala, has been revolving in its orbit for hundreds of centuries; there has not been a difference of even a moment in its rising and setting. Only for Yusha‘ bin Nun was the sun stopped, and that too by the command of Allah Ta’ala. Certainly, from this the blessing and importance of jihad becomes evident.
From this hadith, it is understood that it was Yusha‘ alayhis salam who conquered Bayt al-Maqdis, not Musa alayhis salam. The sun was stopped on the occasion of the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis, not on the occasion of the conquest of Ariha.
