Hadith 10382

حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ الْقُرْقِسَانِيُّ قَالَ الْوَلِيدُ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ أَنَّ الزُّهْرِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ تَمَارَى هُوَ وَالْحُرُّ بْنُ قَيْسِ بْنِ حِصْنٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ فِي صَاحِبِ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ الَّذِي سَأَلَ السَّبِيلَ إِلَى لُقِيِّهِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هُوَ خَضِرٌ إِذْ مَرَّ بِهِمَا أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَنَادَاهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي تَمَارَيْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبِي هَذَا فِي صَاحِبِ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ سَأَلَ السَّبِيلَ إِلَى لُقِيِّهِ فَهَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ شَأْنَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ بَيْنَا مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِي مَلَإٍ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِذْ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَعْلَمَ مِنْكَ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِلَيْهِ خَضِرٌ فَسَأَلَ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ السَّبِيلَ إِلَى لُقِيِّهِ وَجَعَلَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى لَهُ الْحُوتَ آيَةً فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِذَا فَقَدْتَ الْحُوتَ فَارْجِعْ وَكَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِهِمَا مَا قَصَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فِي كِتَابِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that there was a discussion between Hur bin Qais Fazari and him regarding who was that companion of Musa (peace be upon him) whom he had asked about the way to meet. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: He was Khidr (peace be upon him). Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas called him and said: My friend and I are discussing this topic, that who was that companion of Musa (peace be upon him) whom he had asked about the way to meet. Did you hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he mentioned this matter? He said: Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Musa (peace be upon him) was sitting among a group of Bani Israel, when a man stood up and said: O Musa! Do you know anyone who is more knowledgeable than you? He said: No. So Allah Almighty revealed to him that Khidr is (more knowledgeable). Musa (peace be upon him) asked about the way to meet him. In response, Allah Almighty made the fish a sign for them and it was said to them: When you lose the fish, return.
